What if such a well-known character from fairy tales, whose name contains the whiteness of winter, the beauty of snow, found herself on a journey far from Earth, into the cosmic infinity, provoking our fantasy? A fairy-tale Snow White in space, in the distant, futuristic, visionary future. The nostalgia, naivety and magic of childhood meet the vast world of space as we imagine it now, from the high-tech view of the 21st century, with nods to its projections in the futurism of the Space Age era of the 60s and its interpretations in the iconic clothing and accessories of André Courrèges and Paco Rabanne. The softness, tenderness, romance, femininity of the fairy-tale heroine are opposed to her modern emancipated image, handling with new technologies.
Layering of sheer fabrics, ruffles, sets, fitted ‘princess’ silhouettes contrast with cold metals, silver, the hardness of the protective ‘armor’ or spaceship, whose interior, technology and properties inspire textures, shapes and silhouettes. Design interpretations inspired by the Space Age era with clear geometric shapes and retro-futurism will include silvery surfaces with a steely sheen resembling molten metal, crystals and stalagmites. Silhouettes and shapes will be based on layering of transparencies, clearly separated segments, rounded sections, organic three-dimensionality, free folds, strict symmetry. Black and white sharp contrasts will be achieved with color-blocking.
In jewelry, we will see materials such as silver, glass, porcelain, membranes, mesh, crystals. Their shapes will be spherical, organic, wavy, sharp and often large-scale.
The colors in the theme are inspired by the description of Snow White in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale: “She is so named because she embodies the ideal of beauty – her face is ‘white as snow’, her lips are ‘crimson as blood’ and her hair is ‘black like ebony’. Space silver, white, pale gray, steel, graphite, black, greyish blue, sky and royal blue, old gold, nude complete the range.
