Pearly Glow

IVAN ASEN 22 ends the fashion year 2024 in a glamorous and elegant way, with delicate luxury, inspired by… the pearl! This exquisite creation of nature is formed when a small grain of sand accidentally falls into the body of the mussel, which in turn begins to secrete nacre, with which it envelops it. With its gentle matte shine and soft spherical shape, the precious pearl is a symbol of femininity and perfection.

Greek mythology defines pearls as the tears of the goddess of beauty Aphrodite. In bygone eras, pearls were a symbol of wealth, prestige and grandeur, and Coco Chanel elevated them to a cult status: the absolute symbol of elegance and class. The rarity of flawless pearls and their confinement in the shell that shelters them has turned them into a symbol of knowledge, mysticism and esoteric wisdom hidden in the depths of the soul. The formation of the pearl in the heart of the shell embodies the birth of spirit in matter and symbolizes the union of the earthly and heavenly, of spirit and matter.

The symbolism of the pearl as the embodiment of eternal femininity and perfection is the intersection of the design vision with the philosophy of the event partners, the French dermocosmetic brands Institut Esthederm and Bioderma. The “pearl” products Pigmentbio C-Concentrate by Bioderma and the AGE PROTEOM™ and the “Intensive” range by Institut Esthederm are dedicated to the mission of supporting the pure and natural beauty of the skin. And while their outer shell in white, silver or deep violet shades and the pearly-milky consistency are reminiscent of the iridescence of pearl and mother-of-pearl, their content prevents premature aging of the skin and helps it stay fresh and sparkling.

The elements that make up the theme: pearls, shells and mother-of-pearl are an inspiring challenge for designers for the upcoming holiday period. They are interpreted not only in elegant clothes and jewelry, but also in eye-catching minimalist details in everyday women’s and unisex clothing. Smooth surfaces with a refined satin shine in all shades of white through ecru to beige are just as desirable as iridescent iridescence in deep and dark mother-of-pearl tones inspired by the depths of the oceans. Light, delicate pastels in pearly colors with pink and bluish hues are complemented by subtle gold, silver, green and even black shimmer, and the brightest and most sparkling shades are reminiscent of the colors of the rainbow. Possible design interpretations include inspirations from pearl necklaces: strung authentic pearls or other materials resembling them, which form entire garments or parts of the garment, and in their scattered form enrich smooth textures. The shine of the pearl is interpreted in shimmering fabrics, silk satin, bluish and pink reflections, layered transparencies. The vintage luxury of Hollywood divas from bygone periods is recreated in new interpretations of fluid dresses with dramatic backs. The clam inspires three-dimensional shapes such as fans, transparent pleated fabrics, separate three-dimensional segments. Mother-of-pearl in its deep dark shades in the spectrum of petrol blue and green, purple and gold forms iridescent surfaces as if taken from the seabed. In its pure version, the shine is placed only on a small area of the surface, combined with smooth matte monochromatic fabrics.

In accessories, we see clutches and bags with geometric elements combined with soft shapes, as well as iridescent, shimmering materials with holographic and mirror effects. In jewelry, pearls and mother-of-pearl will prevail, forming extravagant floral or abstract shapes, combined with other materials or serving as texture and accent.
